The Teacher

Anika’s Yoga journey began after the birth of her first child in 1998. Her background in athletics and football, where the focus on pushing your body to the limit, was somewhat in contrast to the Yoga practice. Her early teachers were mostly from an Iyengar background, until she found a British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) teacher, Tara Fraser, who sparked her interest in the philosophy of yoga. To further her yoga studies, Anika attended and completed the BWY foundation course with Tara and after the six month course decided to take the next step, the BWY Diploma.

Anika considers herself very lucky to be able to have trained and studied with David Charlton and Gail Reeves, during her BWY Diploma course and continues to attend workshops with them at least once a year. The meetings with David Charlton are always an inspiration to Anika and her teaching. At the same time, they give her passion to study and explore the vast yoga (and vedic) texts further.

Although Anika has had the chance to explore different approaches to yoga through a variety of teachers, it is the philosophy and ideas of an approach, which focuses on the individual as practiced by Dave and Gail, that is really closest to her heart.

She has now been teaching for a number of years, after achieving the BWY Diploma.

Her teaching style combines ideas from different yoga traditions, breath work (pranayama), relaxation and yoga philosophy.

Anika has completed the BWY Teaching Practice Observation Training (TPOT) and is available to observe student teachers as part of their teacher training.

Anika is also on the Register of Exercise Professionals (REP), she is a qualified ASA level 2 swimming instructor and a Reiki Master.
